Why Most eCommerce Events Feel the Same—And How Ecommerce Camp Is Different

Table of Contents

Ecommerce Camp was created because too many industry events felt hollow. As the founder, I wanted to build something that put real practitioner stories and honest conversations first. Here is why Ecommerce Camp stands apart from the rest.

Why do most ecommerce events feel the same?

Because most follow the same formula: a big stage, bigger sponsors, and sessions that slowly turn into sales pitches. As an operator who has sat through hundreds of these (and shared my own growth insights), I know how frustrating it is to invest your time only to end up in a glorified product demo.

That’s why I helped create Ecommerce Camp UK—a community gathering for people who actually run ecommerce: merchants, operators and founders. There is no polished “thought leadership” and no 30-minute product demos. Instead, we bring people together to share real stories: what worked better than expected, what failed (sometimes painfully), the growth experiments nobody talks about and the mistakes that cost money and taught the most. As a UK-based community and education programme, Ecommerce Camp brings founders, agency owners and industry experts together to share real experiences, practical strategies and honest feedback.

Real Stories & Lessons from Birmingham

Every Camp feels different because it is grounded in the experiences of the local community. When we gathered in Birmingham in May 2025, for example, Ecommerce Camp Birmingham 2025 brought together ecommerce leaders and digital enthusiasts for a no-fluff day of expert talks, roundtables and networking. Topics included YouTube growth, viral content, PR and global expansion. The previous events in Manchester and Chester had their own distinct flavour as local merchants shared the tactics and mistakes that made them successful. We also host regular LiveTalks where brands like Craft Gin Club and Valentte share how they built cult-like communities and scaled from market stalls to beloved UK brands.

My Role & Our Partners

My role in this community goes beyond organising events. As both the founder and project coordinator of Ecommerce Camp, I ensure that every programme delivers real value and that the community keeps growing with people who are serious about building sustainable businesses. The insights we gain working with over 100 ecommerce businesses through MageCloud inform our sessions and mentoring. In 2026, MageCloud became an official partner of Ecommerce Camp UK alongside FERO, strengthening the connection between our agency work and our community-building efforts.

Share Your Story

we need your help to keep Ecommerce Camp practitioner-led. We’re inviting merchants with battle scars and lessons to speak at upcoming events. You don’t have to be a professional speaker—just someone willing to share honestly. If you’re a merchant with experiences worth sharing, I would love to hear from you. Apply to speak here or connect with me on LinkedIn so we can talk about your story. Together, we can build a community of practitioners who share openly, learn from each other and push ecommerce forward.
