How Ecommerce Camp Started: From a Simple Problem to a Global Online Event

Paul Ryazanov shares the origin story of Ecommerce Camp UK — how a simple frustration with the state of ecommerce events led to building a community that now brings together hundreds of founders for honest, practitioner-led conversations.

Two Years Ago, We Had a Simple Problem

Ecommerce founders kept telling us the same thing: most events are useless. Too many slides, too many agencies selling services, too little honesty.

Founders don’t want theory. They want to hear what actually broke when someone scaled to 10 million. Which marketing channels stopped working. How the team was built that took a brand to 50 million. What mistakes cost real money.

That’s why we started Ecommerce Camp UK. Small rooms. Real merchants. No sales pitches. Just founders sharing what’s really happening inside their businesses.

But One Problem Remained

Not everyone can travel to events in Chester, Manchester, London, or Birmingham. Geography was limiting who could join the conversation.

So we asked ourselves a simple question: what if we bring the same conversations online without losing the focus?

That’s exactly what we built. A full-day online event featuring live sessions with founders and operators running businesses generating between 20 million and 100 million pounds in revenue. The same honesty, the same practitioner-led format, the same focus on what’s actually working right now — just accessible from anywhere.

No Theory, No Vendor Demos

The sessions are built around practical lessons from people in the trenches. Every speaker is someone who is running or has run an ecommerce business at scale. They share what worked, what didn’t, and what they would do differently if they were starting over.

And the best part is that attendees can ask their own questions live. That direct access to founders who have been through the hard parts is what makes Ecommerce Camp different from the typical webinar or conference.

What Would You Ask?

If you had 10 ecommerce founders running brands generating between 20 and 100 million pounds in one room, what question would you ask them?

That’s the kind of access this event provides. Not a stage performance — a real conversation.
