This week, we travelled all the way down to Shepperton to participate in the UK SEO Summit. It was a privilege to be there and to present ourselves in front of so many intelligent and interesting people, to learn from them and their perspectives.
Why This Event Mattered Right Now
We are in a strange moment for businesses who are trying to start producing content, and an even stranger moment for businesses trying to adapt their existing content model to fit current practices and developments.
Anyone can generate a thousand articles this afternoon. The cost of producing words has dropped to almost nothing. For a lot of founders and agency owners, that feels like leverage.
It also feels like a trap, and I think it is worth saying why plainly.
When output becomes infinite, the scarce thing is no longer content.
Our Talk: Your Best Digital Asset Is You
The core thesis was simple.
In the era of AI content, your best digital asset is you.
This is the verifiable record of what you have actually done, said, and understood over years of real work.
Authority from an experienced individual who can back up what they’re saying now carries more weight than ever. When a reader or a buyer can no longer tell whether an article came from a person or a model, they look for the person behind it. They want evidence.
We discussed Google’s new Search Profile feature. Google is begging is to consider how we appear when our names are searched on the platform. It is of paramount importance that we consider how we appear the second we come up.
Picture someone meeting you cold, with no context. Look at the raw evidence in front of them. Not what you assume it says about you. What it actually says.
For most operators, the honest answer is uncomfortable. A thin profile. A few scattered posts. A body of genuinely valuable work that lives entirely in private conversations and closed rooms.
The Lessons Worth Keeping
Your online presence is your most valuable sales asset
Before a prospect ever speaks to you, they check you. The public picture they find does part of the selling for you or it works against you.
Treat that picture as an asset you build on purpose. A structured, findable record of what you know moves people from cold to warm before you say a word.
When everyone can generate content, experience is the true gold standard
Generated text and video is a commodity. What a model cannot produce is your actual experience of solving a specific problem for a specific business.
Knowledge and demonstrated authority become the ground no volume of output can occupy. That is where your defensibility lives.
Every customer interaction is a content opportunity
Every meeting, call, and email contains something worth publishing. Interactions with your customers serve as a wonderful chance for you to express something invaluable: someone else’s perspective on you. It’s all well and good you talking about how much experience you have dealing with things, but people buy from people, and if potential clients are able to see the excellent work you have done for other people, their faith in you will increase exponentially.
AI is a tool, not a replacement
I am not against these tools. I use them.
The useful frame is to separate the productivity gain from the durability bet. AI safely saves effort when it helps you surface, shape, and structure work you have already done. It quietly transfers your risk when you lean on it to manufacture a body of authority you never earned.
The future of mass-produced AI articles is hard to predict. Betting your organic traffic on them is a poor risk. Search platforms can change the rules on that supply overnight, and you do not control any of it.
Humans stay in the loop because authorship is the scarce asset. Nothing gets invented. Your knowledge base is what you have genuinely said and done, going back years.
What This Means Going Forward
The takeaway from UK SEO Summit was not that content is dead. It is that the value has moved.
The durable asset is a deliberate, structured, findable record proving that a real person with real history stands behind what you say. AI earns its place by helping you surface and reshape that record, not by faking it.
So start with the small, recurring contribution.
Capture the insight from your next customer call. Publish it under your name. Keep a structured record of what you actually know, and let it compound.
Then check your own answer to the question. When they look you up, what do they find? Build on purpose until that answer is one you are proud of.
