Why I Joined GrowthMentor
I recently joined GrowthMentor as a Conversion Rate Optimisation mentor, and I want to share why this matters to me and what I hope to bring to the founders and operators who book sessions. Mentoring is not something I do for marketing purposes or to build my personal brand. It is something I do because I genuinely believe that one good conversation with the right person at the right time can change the trajectory of a business. I know this because it has happened to me — multiple times in my career, a single conversation with an experienced practitioner has saved me months of wasted effort and thousands of pounds in avoided mistakes.
What CRO Mentoring Actually Involves
When people hear “CRO mentor,” they often imagine someone who will look at your website for five minutes and tell you to move your add-to-cart button above the fold. Real CRO mentoring is much deeper than that. It involves understanding your specific business context — your customer demographics, your competitive landscape, your unit economics, your traffic sources, and your growth goals. Only then can you give advice that is actually relevant rather than generic best practices that may or may not apply. In my mentoring sessions, I focus on helping founders develop their CRO thinking rather than just giving them a list of changes to make. I want them to leave each session with a framework they can apply independently, not just a set of tasks to execute.
What I Have Learned From 23 Years of Practice
My approach to CRO is shaped by over two decades of working directly with ecommerce businesses at MageCloud. I have seen what works and what does not across hundreds of stores, multiple platforms, and every product category imaginable. The most important thing I have learned is that CRO is not about tricks or hacks — it is about deeply understanding your customer’s decision-making process and removing every obstacle between them and a confident purchase. The second most important thing I have learned is that most ecommerce businesses are sitting on significant untapped revenue that can be unlocked through systematic testing and optimisation of what they already have.
Why Giving Back Matters
Joining GrowthMentor is part of a broader commitment to giving back to the ecommerce community that has given me so much. Along with Ecommerce Camp, mentoring is one of the ways I try to ensure that the knowledge and experience I have accumulated over the years does not just benefit my agency’s clients but reaches the wider community of ecommerce builders who are working hard to grow their businesses. If you are an ecommerce founder or operator who is struggling with conversion rates, I would welcome the opportunity to help. Sometimes the most impactful thing is not a full agency engagement — it is a focused conversation with someone who has seen your exact problem before and can point you in the right direction.
