I put together a quick Google Sheet that extracts meta and H1 information from a list of URLs. It sounds basic. It is also the thing that saves a migration.
Why this keeps coming up
The same issue arrives from clients constantly: an in-house marketing manager needs to check meta titles and H1 tags across the site. We could run it for them, but plenty of teams want to keep that work in house, and they should be able to.
So a sheet that pulls it in bulk removes the bottleneck entirely. Nobody has to wait for an agency to answer a question they can answer themselves in ten minutes.
Where it really matters: moving platforms
When you move from one ecommerce platform to another, meta titles and H1s are the things that silently disappear. The new site launches, the content looks fine to a human, and the elements Google was ranking are gone or rewritten by a template.
Capture them before you migrate and you have a reference to check against afterwards. Skip it and you are guessing at what changed, which is how a migration turns into pages dropping out of the index with no obvious cause. It is the same discipline as checking what is actually indexed rather than assuming.
The wider point
A half-finished or unchecked migration is worse than no migration, which is what we walked into with a store whose replatform had been abandoned midway. And often the honest answer is not to move at all, which is why we sometimes talk clients out of a rebuild.
Before you change platforms, take the snapshot. It costs an afternoon and protects years of rankings, the definition of getting the foundation right.
If a replatform is on your roadmap, book a call and we will tell you what to capture first.
